Extent of Timber Pest Inspections
Depending on the type of property being inspected, generally the pest inspector carries out the following standard procedure to establish the existing situation in relation to any termite infestation and/or damage and if any existing protection system is in place.
A thorough visual inspection is carried out of all safely accessible areas. Generally the areas/items inspected are as follows.
a) The site including fences, gardens, retaining walls and any other items that may be termite affected.
b) The external and interior of dwellings/buildings/structures.
c) Any safely accessible void areas, sub-floors and roof voids.
The following types of equipment are used along with the inspector's experience in the industry to determine the existing situation at the property being inspected.
a) A thermal imaging camera is used throughout the whole of the inside of any dwelling or building. This quite often reveals old termite nests, missing or repaired framework, suspect areas, live termite activities, signs of moisture and the likes of potentially overheating power points.
b) Moisture meters are used to detect any areas that are high in moisture where termites can be attracted to or where a termite nest may be.
c) A knock stick is used on window and door reveals and architraves and skirtings to detect any suspect areas and/or termite damage.
d) Termatrac equipment is used to determine if there is any movement behind the sheeting at any suspect areas.
e) Borescope equipment is used when required to visually confirm activity within a wall or cavity area.
We assure you that the inspector does everything possible to determine the true situation at the time of inspection. Our reputation is on the line.
The reports will inform you about any of the following.
1) Any existing infestation and any damage to the structure/s that is found.
2) Any evidence of damage to the structure/s that is found.
3) Any areas that are at risk of being infested in the future.
